Royal mail.No full refund for no delivery

Sent a package to the USA.The value of the goods were £3.20.Add to that the postage of £2.97.They have paid the £3.20.That's all.Their customer service was happy in saying I am harping on about it but there is nothing they can do.Insurance companies don't do refunds so I guess the rest must be an admin charge for a service they have not done.Rules are rules she said.Postwatch have been advised.Doubt if I'll get much joy
Worst thing is two more have still to arrive at their destination and my customers are going to want full credits

  • Hi there,

I understand that you can claim up to £30 per claim - I suggest that you value your item higher & include an amount for your time in resolving the situation.

The difficulty here is these three wallpaper 'Hello Kitty' borders were bought some years ago and I no longer hold the receipt. The £3.20 was the final bid on ebay.In effect they haven't done the service they have been paid to do.Worst thing is now I may have to give a complete refund to the customer.
I did however include a 0.71p insurance charge on my listing, which they have not taken up.I didn't say what it included though.

Of course my 99% feedback is going to be hammered with three customers saying they have not received their items.Thank you Royal Mail.Let's hope from January 2006 the competition can be better.
  • Yet more appalling service from RM. Maybe offer customers the cheap and unreliable option of RM or an expensive courier option. Perhaps you could write to them explaining you an online business who frequently uses the services of RM to send packages around the world and that these 3 failed deliveries are going to cost your business more than the cost of the items in terms of upset customers. Put a value on it and ask them to compensate you. At the very least you should get some free stamps/
    Sense is not common.

I know the Royal Mail has it problems but be fair they do manage to deliver the vast majority of mail on time and to the correct address. They are an easy company to bash and often deserve it but how many of you can honestly say they work for a company that gets it 100% correct every hour of every day. We all try but we are only human (except for lawyers that barely meet the grade) and we all make mistakes.

I am sorry but they deserve being bashed. If I am to believe that around 5% of mail is lost, damaged, stolen etc then why is it a fact that they don't compensate for postage also.Clearly they are in breach of contract and have not done a service they have been paid to do.Furthermore if they have to redirect then I would assume they make a further charge inc admin. So does that mean that as a customer I should be due cost of item, postage refunded and my admin?
