TV and Sky

Hi everyone :cheesy:
The flat where I'm moving to has a built-in satellite connection in the lounge along with a phone connection. I wish to have the TV (I'm only going to buy one) and Sky in the bedroom. The bedroom does have a phone socket. The builder has told me I can't have Sky Plus for some reason.
Once I order Sky, would the engineer coming out be able to connect Sky to the TV in the bedroom?
Thanks. :cheesy:

Possibly. He would have to run rf cable from the socket in the lounge to the bedroom, an easy job.0

Its best to co-locate the Sky Box and the TV.
Presumably the block has a communal satellite dish and there is only one feed to your flat, you need two for Sky+ to work. That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -

Only one channel (programme) is available at any one time instead of two channels.
You can only record one channel at a time and you can't record one channel while watching another.
You can watch a recorded programme while recording another programme.
With two feeds Sky+ can record two channels at the same time or you can watch one channel while recording another channel. You can also watch a recorded programme while recording two other programmes.
Maybe it differs for situations with communal dishes.0 -
One would assume that if OP was going to fork out for Sky+ then they would expect all the functions to be available. That gum you like is coming back in style.0

Thank you :cheesy:
1. Should I get BT wireless Broadband or Sky wireless Broadband?
2. My PC doesn't have wireless capability. Would a SpeedTouch 120 USB wireless adaptor do for both the above services?0 -
Up to you, Sky would be cheaper if they have their kit at your exchange.
Check this on Samknows.
Sky supply you with a router, it has 4 wired Ethernet ports, so you would need one on your PC.
You can only use the Sky supplied router with their internet. That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -

The Sky+ box has all the capabilities. It is the lack of a second satellite cable that causes the limitation.
If a user cannot have two cables (because they are in a shared block of flats for example), then Sky+ with only one channel is still useful for recording and playback. The limitation is that it can only record one channel at a time and not two.
Not very many years ago millions of people bought and used video recorders that only recorded one channel at a time, and with far poorer quality than Sky+ offers.
The Sky+ box is relatively cheap compared to video recorders and does not need cassette tapes either.0 -

if its a proper sky installer that arrives he will not use cable someone else has fitted for fear of it being substandard, this applies to standard installs, make sure when you order he say you have a comunal dish and they will send the appropriate installer who will asses all the equipment there0 -

Forgot to ask!
I got my phone line activated at the master switch but BT won't activate the extension phone sockets which are there and which I guess are wired. I've just ordered BT broadband too. I asked the guy about why the other sockets aren't 'live' but he wasn't sure. Also, i asked him that since I've ordered broadband will I get broadband from the other sockets once I get them 'live'. He wasn't sure about that either. Does anyone know?0
