Looks very good imo... the only othwe place to try could be the dell busniess pc's just spec up the basic ones and they are cheap sometimes.

But this looks really good and quad core is good 8mb cache! just the processor is worth over £200:beer:

I bought my pc from Aldi in March 2005, a Medion with three years guarantee, it was more money than this one,at £750 but it has been really good, no problems with it at all.
I could do with a laptop for taking with me when I travel and for using in another room, wouldn't hesitate to get another one from Aldi.

in the details I had, they've got a laptop due on the 14th August.
  • Tesco are doing a Dell 530 with the same Core 2 Quad for £299 http://direct.tesco.com/q/R.204-0126.aspx

Not checked the specs but even assuming you wanted another gig of memory, and thats all Vista will cope with your talking about another 20 quid tops.

That Core 2 Quad is available for 105 quid from online retaillers. They are not as expensive, nor as fast at everyday tasks as you may think!

It is decent but you can get better spec PC's on ebay if you shop around. There is the problem of getting scammed (etc.) but as long as you buy from a reliable seller with good feedback it's worth it. I've bought 2 systems off there so far with no problems.

There’s also the option of asking round your friends\family to see if any of them is good at computing and can put together computers (it's not as difficult as it seems). If there is then your better off buying the parts yourself and getting them to build it even if you pay him for his\her trouble it will be worth it.

I somehow doubt that anyone could build a computer to the exact same specification for any less than the Aldi price.

Show us a link to one of these questionable computers on eBay with a " better spec ".

Well this one is much better than the Aldi one and will last you years even if your a gamer. The 9500GS is a really lame card (GS cards are always the lowest of the low). Furthermore Aldi don't mention what speed RAM is provided If you don't care about gaming then you can get much cheaper systems than this which are decent for web surfing etc.

The only down side of the eBay one is that it doesn’t come with an OP but you’ve probably already got one if your browsing these forums. Also to note this is just one I found doing a quick search. If your patient and have a look around you can get deals even better than this.

I myself bought a rig with an X1900XTX 512MB, 2GB Ram, Core 2 Duo E4300, 320GB Hard Drive, 2 DVD RW drives + Floppy Drive and a X-Fi soundcard for just under £500 and that was almost 2 years ago. Since then i have been able to play almost every game at max settings on a 22 Inch monitor. Only Oblivion and recently Crysis have given me problemss. Oblivion is playable at max settings but Crysis is a different story. So basically this rig will last me another 2-3 years if I'm willing to lower the graphic settings but I'm not so I will be upgrading soon. :o

I can't seem to find the Freeview/Satellite card and Remote Control on that one, or the 3 year warranty.

Oh and no Operating System, as you say.

Not all of us actually want to play games on our computers.

Like i said this is one I found in a couple of minutes by just doing a search for 8800GT. The 8800GT is a much better card than the 9500GS so if I had searched for something more equal to the power of the 9500 I would have probably found better deals.

As for the TV Tuner, yes it doesn't have it but there’s bound to be some which do as it is becoming a standard feature in many custom built systems besides some people have TV’s in their homes to watch TV on.

Your right, not everyone wants to game and I mentioned this too. If people don't want to game then they can get a much cheaper system for half the prices or less. Me mentioning my rig was just to show people what kind of deals are available. If I had bought my computer from Dell or some other place it would have cost close to £1000. The graphics card alone was retailing for over £300.

Anyway I didn’t say this was crap deal just that better rigs may be available if you’re willing to have a look around. I don't think I'm being disrespectful as the OP asked what epople thought of the system.

I bought an Aldi laptop earlier in the year and the main problem is that it runs on Windows Vista, and doesn't have Microsoft Office which I need for all my spreadsheets, so in theory that would be another £80 (ish) I have to shell out.

Have you tried these guys? Its where i got mine and is excellent,
