Part of the Furniture Combo Breaker
Okay, so I've been itching to get Ubuntu back for a while. Ailing graphics card coupled with lack of funds etc. helped me put it off for ages, but since 'upgraded' (lol, still ancient tech.) my graphics card the other day, I just had to get a copy of Hardy Heron.

The installer (Gparted) didn't recognise my 'stuff' and thought my whole HD was 'unallocated'. I found a nifty-looking little prog. called Testdisk which helps sort out partitions and stuff and couldn't resist the temptation to allow it to fix my boot drive, which apparently had the wrong number of clusters or.. sectors.. or somesuch.. and.. !!!!!!! now it's all DEADED!

I'm typing this courtesy of the Ubuntu live CD which is allowing me to 'pretend', for now, that things are okay.. I'll probably have to reformat and reinstall XP and all that jazz over the next few days, but thanks to a link that someone kindly posted, I also obtained Acronis True Image 10 earlier (free, since I have a Maxtor external HD) and used it to create an image of my 'stuff' - I already had any docs. I'd rather not lose on my ext. HD, so that (and the vodka!)'s helping me not to get too mad at myself (or at my OH, who said, 'well.. I hate to say 'I told you so'..' yadda yadda..).

Tell me of your computer woes. I'm too 'tiddly' to be bothered doing anything constructive now, and it would help to hear of others' impulsive errors right now!
