Good that you have a 'fair' MOT tester!

& one that bothers with the advisory notice - plenty would either pass or fail an item, rather than create extra paperwork!!

Sounds like a possible fluid loss from a shock absorber, but nothing drastic. Might even be oil spillage, but probably not.

As the problem isn't serious, you might a swell leave it, or clean the area of 'misting', see how long before it shows itself again. If it's a few days, then think bout repairs.

Cost is dependent on make & model & if it's shock absorbers & not Macphearson Struts (these are a much bigger part), perhaps £40 each - good idea to change in pairs - & a couple hours labour max. £50/hour???

If you have this sensible MOT garage, why not let them quote you - if you haven't a garage usually used?

    Hi,
Thanks for reply, i wouldnt know where to start with cleaning the misting lol, its a honda civic 1998.
The chap is very fair, i took it the same place for MOT last year and the reason i took it there is the person i bought it from always took it there lol and i used to take my moped there before i progessed to my car 14 months ago, think i will give them a ring my hubby said i should have asked while i was there lol but i was so pleased nothing needed doing didnt look at the advisory untill later!!

No panic then. Leave it until next year. May be good idea to have service and MOT about 3-4 weeks before MOT due to expire so that they have good time to see if the shock absorber has got worse and would fail MOT and therefore need replacing.

Its not that much more paperwork to create an advisory - and if MOT inspector got caught failing or passing a vehicle incorrectly, they would be in trouble, its not worth their while to do that.
