buying a car from Northern Ireland

Hiya, can anyone give me advice on buying a car from Northern Ireland its the right price, and bringing it back to England can you just ferry it over and drive it home!

yeah you can just bring it over.

I've done it the other way around, from mainland to N.I, and yup you can drive it straight over, you wont receive a new v5 tho until you have to tax it, you then have to do it in a local branch of tax office, not post office, very easy tho

Will DVLNI not send out a new V5 as whoever you buy the car from will send the old V5 to DVLNI to register the change of owner?

DVLNI do send them to swansea, but as I found out, Swansea immediately throw them in the bin when they receive them:rolleyes: It is up to the new owner to register the correct paperwork, which is actually very simple. And I got that information after phoning Swansea to see what the hold up was. :rolleyes: In the meantime, there is effectivly a 'black hole' where the car is not correctly registered in either NI or GB, neither tax office takes responsibility until the car is retaxed, at which point they also give you the option of receiveing a new registration plate number. Load of silly paperwork shuffling in my opinion, not my job sort of attitude. But it is really simple, one form and a visit to a tax office sorts it in the end;)
