Non repair of laptop?

Not sure if this is the right forum but here goes.

Put my daughters laptop in for repair DC jack broke inside laptop. Was told it would only take a couple of days. Three weeks down the line it is still there, i have spoke to them a couple of times Ist time they said they were having trouble getting the right jack.
2nd time the person was out & would phone back later in the day, that was thursday nothing since.

Now i am going down to see them tomorrow to retrieve it & take it somewhere else.

What i want to know can they legally charge me for the time they have spent trying to repair it? They told me originally it was £69.99 fixed price for the repair
if i had known then what i know now

I repair the same and spares are hard to find for exact one off's. Can take time, try to locate the part yourself, but, as it is in parts at the moment....same problem for other engineers, try radio spares, farnell, maplin, cpc etc

If they told you it would take a couple of days and three weeks later it is still not fixed, they'd have to have some nerve to try and charge you for it.

I'd tell them they have a week to get it fixed, and if it's not repaired by then you're coming to collect it and you don't expect to receive a bill.

I think it's the same problem then, they have had a couple sent in but no joy. They then were going to photograph DC jack & send picture to there supplier & see if that works.

Now if they can't locate the right one how am my suppose to do it?
