Laptop died

The blue screen of death! Tried rebooting and it stayed on for a couple of minutes, managed to start it again and tried to restore to earlier point. Crashed during that, now comes up with 'no boot cd found' or something like that. Tries the windows repair from the cd but said there was a problem with hdd for the partition. Help please!!

Hard disks soemtimes lose their FATs - File allocation Tables

You can repair by running chkdsk from the windows repair or from dos

if this happens once - don't worry - more than once is usually a sign that tthe hd is on its last legs - or their is a problem with the IDE interface on the motherboard

First of what OS have you got (operating system) Have you looked in the Bios
to see if your Boot sequence has changed, and have you left a floppy disk in the PC
    thats a very common one.

It will not go into safe mode, it looks to be trying to find a hard drive. Although it displays the HD details at the start of the boot up it does nothing else. I'm guessing that he HD is broken? If I put a HD in from someone elses laptop, should it boot up as normal, allowing for the drivers to be incorrect of course?
    Thanks
