Need help with a used car warranty problem

Hello

Does anyone know how I stand with a problem I have with a used car, any help would be appreciated. I bought a used car from a dealership in April with a three month warranty. I have had various repairs completed under the warranty although I did not receive a written copy of the term and conditions, just verbal. In the last week of the warranty the car started to leak oil. It went into the dealership on the last day of warranty (3rd of July 2008) and was supposed to have been rectified. In the last ten days it has started leaking oil again, I have spent this time trying to sort out the position with there customer service ( and I use the term loosely!), to be told that as the car is out of warranty I have to foot the bill for the repair. Does anyone know if that is correct, I am concerned that the dealership did not repair the problem and just did a patch up job so that the car was out of warranty and I would be liable for the cost? What are your thoughts on this, shall i just put it down to experience or push them a little harder for the repairs to be carried out by them at their cost?

Thank you for reading this.

Ask to speak to the owner of the Garage and let them know that the issue emanates from within the warranty period and has still not been resolved.

If the owner is unresponsive say that your next complaint will be to the local trading standards office and you will be rejecting the car due to the ongoing problems - and then do just that if you have to.

Not sure you have a leg to stand on as there is nothing in writing. You can only ask if they have any 'goodwill'. Is this a main dealership?

It is a Nissan dealership, we have been dealing with Nissan Customer Services, who in turm have been liasing with the garage. The manager has gone on holiday today for a week, the Service Manager has left today.. Can you believe it! The dealership have said today that we have to pay for repairs, naturally we don't think so,as you said the problem comes from within the warranty period. We have mentioned trading standards but do seem to have reached a stalemate.

Hi Jeannie Blue, Thank you for your thoughts, we have also had the brake discs, pads, lightbulbs and pedals repaired under this " warranty" do you think this makes any difference?

I think it does - I advise you to keep on at Nissan customer services - not your fault manager on hols and service manager has done a 'bunk'.

Mention FSA and Consumer Direct etc too - may help. :o
