Unconfirmed addresses

Please can someone clarify for me.

I have had an item won by someone (who is new to ebay) who paid by e cheque via paypal. When it cleared it came up as an unconfirmed address on the postage label. I emailed the buyer and said I couldn't post to an unconfirmed address. This is due to what I have read on here and ebay rules. He has responded saying he cannot confirm his address and he has seen on paypal that I can send it to his unconfirmed address.

Can you tell me whats right.

If he has paid by eCheque, then his payment hasn't been funded by his credit card (AFAIK), so seller protection doesn't apply to you anyway and whether or not his address is confirmed is irrelevant.

I'm pretty sure you can't force him to confirm his address anyway, and there is nothing in eBay's rules that say you can't post to an unconfirmed address. Just make sure you send the item via a trackable method so he can't start a PayPal item not received claim.

You usually get an email as soon as someone pays by echeque and this has the address status on it. It is a bit late now it has cleared to ask them to confirm their address. I would post the item by a trackable service as soon as possible now.

How much did they pay for the item? If it is less than £36 then you can claim for loss via Royal Mail with a COP so its not really worth sending via a trackable method. I often send low value items to unconfirmed addresses and have not had any problems. Obviously if its a high value item then its a whole different ball game.

Are you sure his payment is not funded by his credit card? Is it possible his paypal account is only funded by CC?

If his CC amount available when he sent this payment is not enough to pay the item, he can only send eCheque. However, it is possible he can pay his CC later. Im not sure.

    Thanks.
If it seems to good to be true, it probably is.

I was under the impression that eCheques were funded by a bank account and this is why they take so long to clear.
