£4 school uniforms for 3-12 year-olds available in-store at Asda

What's the deal?
Asda's selling school uniforms for three to twelve year-olds for a flat rate of just £4. The whole outfit, suitable for both boys and girls, consists of a polo shirt, skirt or trousers, and sweatshirt.
Limited details
We haven't heard back from Asda's press office about the material each item is made of, or the colours available, but I'd be surprised if it didn't include bog-standard white shirts and black skirts/trousers. And, going on Asda's previous value clothing promotions, the shirt'll probably be a cotton and polyester mix whilst the bottoms more than likely 100% polyester.
If you visit a store and buy/see what they're like, please report the details below so other MoneySavers can benefit too.
How to get one
Asda stores nationwide that have a George clothing department will be running this offer, although it has been advertised as a one-time promotion so once stock's gone, it's gone. Find your closest Asda.

Anyone bought these school uniforms? Just wondering if its worth the trip to Asda for my DD's uniform.“A budget is telling your money where to go instead of wondering where it went.” - Dave Ramsey0

The shirts are ok but watch the size! I need to wear a white shirt for the band I play in and am wearing girls shirts from ASDA size 15-16 years, perfect fit. The ones I have are past their best so I got some new ones - same size - but they are a lot smaller. Once I discovered it was too small, I measured it against the one I already have and it was an inch smaller across the back. I'll need to try somewhere else, does anyone know anywhere that does school shirts a bit bigger? I could probably wear a boys collar size16 1/2".0

I've got my son's their short sleeved school shirts from M&S again this year. They are 16 1/2 inch collars which is the biggest size in their childrens range and fit my three teenage sons who are 6ft 2in (age 18), 6ft 1in (age 16) and 6ft 4in (age 14 and yes I have got the heights and ages the right way round. My youngest is huge!).
They are a great fit, and last for ages. The quality is far superior than the Asda shirts for me, a M&S pack of 3 shirts on their 3 for 2 offer worked out less than the Gents Asda Smart Price Shirts at £3 each as I got 9 shirts for £20, less Quidco (who paid up within a month of the order), less 15% as their was a code going about at the time so £16 in total for me. The Smart Price Shirts were / are £3 each so a fair saving.
I'm not sure about the girls range, but it might be worth a look there.
Hope this helps.
PS If anyone knows where I can get school trousers for my youngest I'd be eternally greatful. His inside leg is around 38 inches and it's hell trying to find trousers to fit and up here in Scotland we've only got to the 19th August when the schools return.0 -
BHS have an excellent range of sizes in schoolwear.
I live in Edinburgh and was looking in their Princes Street store yesterday and was very impressed with what they have - they do generous fit, long length and short length on trousers, and also have generous fit on some knitwear and shirts.
It was busy however - schools go back here on 20th August.0 -
I have just been inspired by this thread to go to Asda and get DS school uniform. Was very frustrated that there were no boys short sleeved blue school shirts. So, thought I would have a look in the men's section. Got five 14 1/2 collar blue short sleeved men's shirts which will be ideal for my huge 9 year old son. Guess how much 98p each (old stock). Got them home and they're perfect. So look out for these if you need school shirts for your boys.
I feel invincible :T
Wonder woman
Also started my Xmas shopping - paperbacks £1 - bought 10 for starters! Look out for these, some good authors.0 -
I work in George when I'm back home and the £4 are good for £4. The skirts/trousers are not teflon protected like the other trousers in the George range, the 50p polo shirts are not 100% cotton like the other school poloshirts but the sweatshirts are exactly the same as the sweatshirts in the other back to school area (i know cos i had to move them).
The sweatshirts are available in red, maroon, green, royal blue, navy blue, grey and black depending on your stores availability and location. The trousers and skirts are grey and the polo shirts and shirts are white.
Also available at George are multipacks of bobble free tights, vests, pants, socks etc from £2.0 -
We always struggled to pay for school clothing for our boys. There were no such offers in those days. Somehow, though, it just doesn't seem right to me that kids, who have no say in what they have to wear every day to school, are sent off in the cheapest possible, ill fitting crap available. I know that I will be shouted down, for a variety of reasons, all probably valid, but doesn't self respect and personal pride count for anything any more? Should we not be teaching them to take an interest in their appearance, especially since such things can be so important to school age children? It grieves me to see kids in winter with flimsy ill fitting clothes, and shoes. We certainly complained about the cost, but at least there was a quality standard, and not one that originated in China/India/Indonesia, etc. Rant over..... Somebody has to speak up for the kids....0

Are you for real?
I buy cheap uniform. I dont see the point in buying something more expensive. I know there is better quality out there, but I dont need quality for school uniform. I do buy good quality shoes, like Clarks, I would rather scrimp on clothes so that I can afford Clarks shoes. I dont think their clothes are ill fitting or flimsy either? I have to buy a school sweatshirt, so whatever they wear in winter is hidden under that. I always make sure their clothes fit properly and will last until summer. By then they need the next size and so on.
Most people with more than one child couldnt afford to kit them out with "quality" school uniform anyway.
My Grandad used to say, "you can be poor without being common". I buy them cheap school uniform but that doesnt mean there is no self respect or personal pride as you put it!“A budget is telling your money where to go instead of wondering where it went.” - Dave Ramsey0 -
it's very nice that you can afford the over priced stuff but the customers who come in for smart price uniforms are usually not in the position to buy the nicer stuff though i'm quite sure if they could then they would.0
