anyone went to the preview last night?

I never understood the big fuss about it - and although I saw it twice and enjoyed the shows, I still thought this was all a bit over the top, hype etc...

But as I said I did enjoyed the 2 shows I saw.
I only went back to go with a friend who wanted to go.
But tattoo 2008 is quite disapointing - i don't know if they had some budget issue or something with tickets selling much slowly (?)
Or I'm wondering if they didn't go back to the root of the show (can't say the first one I saw was 3-4 years)

anway a couple of things were very nice. music nice - but the show in overall felt very poor. My friends was quite disappointed as well - she had heard some many things about it she was like, ergh that's it? (so was I)

Well at least I'm glad these were half price tickets!

I'd be happy to hear experience of other people this year.

I was there. Thought it was ok. I thought it lacked atmosphere but this may have been due to the press running everywhere! A bit off putting. There was not a lot of variety either. I have been when there was a motor bike display and a sort of assault type course thing with guns. There was nothing like that. I got excited on seeing the guy on skating skis but it was a bit now you see them, now you dont! The highlight for me was the young Norweigiens(sp?) who were on their National service.

ah, exactly, that a good way of putting it!
I have been when there was a motor bike display and a sort of assault type course thing with guns.

that the first one i went to see!
also last year there were horses! and this band from Switzerland doing AMAZING this with their drums. and a choir from south africa singing gospel, that was great, and this group from eastern europe doing some traditional singing and dancing with full costumes that was good, and kids from 'somewhere in asia' doing acrobatie with *swords*

Mind you I like bigpipes and marching, and kilts ^^, and highland dancing, but it just that there seems to be more of everything before

    :rotfl: exactly the same
got excited by the vikings but it lasted 10 seconds.
Best were the Norwegians (;) ), beautiful and impressive.
I also quite liked the highland dancers - nice to see them dancing on some different sort of music than usual.

good point, I would be interested to know if that was the case.

I may have missed you but if not and to all who are going. You are NOT allowed umbrellas!!!!

Best buy one of the poly poncho things!

We had proper rain jackets and a waterproof picnic mat over out knees so were not too bad!

Luckily I forgot to take the umbrella anyway! I had a huge rain poncho from a v wet trip to Rome and we took every waterproof we own, just in case-and then it didn't rain!!! The fireworks were amazing.

PS Best Chinese EVER is Saigon Saigon - there's usually a man with a poster on a stick advertising it on Princes St - superb

Indeed! I watched it from my bedroom window.
The thing is... 3-4 times I thought it was over, so went back to bed... just to run back at the window 30s later because it was not :o

Was there on Thursday night 21st - never been as wet in my life despite being well 'waterproofed' Thought the show was only very average, although the Norwegians and the New Zealand marching girls were by far the best acts.
Will watch it on TV from now on. Definitely worth seeing but not worth going to see.
