I am very interested in what you all said to MBNA on the phone to get your interest rate down. I have a balance of 5k. Do you think it is worth giving them a call. If so what would I say any sugguestions ??

My DH had to speak to the 'Rates Dept' and said could they lower the rate as he wasn't happy with the current rate and was thinking of transferring the balance.

As the good folks on here said, the worst they could do is say no.

I just phoned them up got chatting to the guy on the end of the phone and just asked could he do something about the rate as I thought it waas really high
His reply was I will just take a look at that and back he came with the offer
Easy I think it pay's to be nice to these people.
I did try it with my M&S More than card and they said a straight no so payed the balance off and hopefully will get an offer through from them.

  • Tried this yesterday with Barclaycard, bearing in mind I've had this account for nearly 22 years have cleared it countless times by consolidating - in my less financially aware days. Got a resounding no :(
