holiday spending credit card advise

Hello

I have a capital one credit card with 0% on spending until next march and a nationwide credit card that I haven't used for ages. I notified both companies that we are going to be in France later this month to prevent any problems of unusual spending patterns. Capital One say thanks for letting them know, will cost 2.75% currency conversion charge. Nationwide say they no longer need notifying of holidays as they monitor unusual spending patterns and act accordingly ..... well of course spending in France WILL be an unusual spending pattern as I don't live there (and haven't used the card at all for a fair while anyway) so why can't they put a note on the account!

Anyway, while thinking it through it occured to me that I am using the capital one card 0% on spending to amass as much as I can in our offset account to save some interest on the mortgage, so am I wide of the mark or am I right in thinking that even though I will pay 2.75% for the use of my capital one card, I will still earn the difference bewteen that and my mortgage rate (which is 6.70%, so 3.95%) until next march making it a better deal than nationwide card even with no currency conversion charge?

If it helps, I hardly ever use the NW card and only abroad (so "unusual activity" but it's never been questioned, even after months of non-use. You should be alright.
You've never seen me, but I've been here all along - watching and learning...
