Minimum age for selling on amazon?

I'm having some problems with an amazon seller, he claims he has sent my item, it didn't arrive. He then claims he sent a second, replacement item, which didn't arrive either.

He has since received negative feedback from another buyer in the same situation as me.

I have managed to strike up an email conversation with him, his first admission was that he emails an "employee" to send out the goods and it is the employees fault.

In his most recent email ha has promised to send me another replacement item and I am willing to give it one last chance.

what worries me slightly in his most recent email is he admits to being a 16 year old student and its not fair how he is meant to sort out the mess left by his "employees".

Is he old enough to be trading on amazon? I can't find any T & C s anywhere.

I've now decided that I can afford to wait on the item and spin this one out for a while to try and teach him a wee bit of business sense. What do you think?

  • This is a very interesting story - on both sides.

Firstly on the sellers side, you have to have a debit card to set up as a seller and as I understand it you can't have one of these till you are 16 so it seems that he is allowed to sell. So I think that it's really great that this young chap is showing a bit of enterprise and having a go at selling. Where it seems to be failing him is the 'employee' or maybe 'cohort' is a better word so if he can sort out what goes wrong between an item selling and getting to the customer then he'll be OK, until he does that he is going to put people to a lot of bother and frustration and as you say he's getting bad feedback already.
Secondly, I think that it's great also that you are giving him another chance to sort out this muddle because you could have gone straight in with a complaint to Amazon and given him bad feedback. If this next delivery doesn't arrive I assume that that's what you'll do.

So I think that on paper he's old enough but in practice he needs to get his act together
