about to turn 25, when should i renew my railcard?

i'm about to hit the quarter century mark (:o) in september. i currently have a young persons railcard that expires in december. however, if i get a railcard at the end of august, that means cheaper fares for me till i'm almost 26.

am i able to renew my card now? or am i unable to do so since i currently have a card expiring in december, when i can't renew it?
