Hi all,
I dunno if this is in the right place but hey ho, if is it isnt could someone move it for me thanks.
Right my position is as follows, I'm currently working for a firm that are actively looking to employ someone for basically the same job that I am currently fulfilling but they are offering a salary package which is between 18 and 30% higher than what I am currently receiving. Personally I dont think this is fair and I feel very undervalued. Additionally I have recently taken on more resposibility over the IT in the company in addition to my main job role.
I know some people would tell me to stop moaning about it but with a new born on the way we could really use an extra 3-5k a year.
Does anyone else think this is unfair or is it just me? and does anyone have any advice on how to resolve this? I like my job and would prefere not to leave but I feel that my current employer obviously doesnt value me and it is somewhat upsetting!
Thanks

Have you spoken to your boss about this at all? Talking from experiance some bosses won't give you a decent pay rise until they are asked for it just to save themselves a bit of money (yes alot of bosses are that cheap!).1st Aim = Pay off Virgin CC - £3929.110

No i have not brought this subject up as I do not know how to approach it and i do not want it to affect my current position.0

He must realise that you've seen the package they're offering to the applicants and I would bet he won't say anything unless you do as that would cost him money ( sounds like your boss was cheaper than mine was!).1st Aim = Pay off Virgin CC - £3929.110 -
I think she is more concerned about getting her big dividend and bonus at the end of the year to worry about me lol. What is the best way to approach these sort of things as I have no experience in doing so.0

I would just mention to her that you've seen the ad and what they are offering a new applicant and see what she says. She should know exactly what you are getting at!1st Aim = Pay off Virgin CC - £3929.110

I would prepare a brief paper based on the ad.
Detail the specifics of what they are looking for in the role and then give clear examples of where you fulfill this and your level of expertise, etc.
Do this for every aspect of the experience that they are looking for and then ask for a rise to make you up to the same money as is being offered to the new start as you are obviously already fulfilling every aspect of this role
Also, you will probably be expected to train this new person. I would also point that out to the boss.0 -
Yep - I applied for a job a couple of years ago, in a team of 4 people doing the same job... I negotiated a higher salary and the others found out. So they all complained and got a payrise up to the same level as me!
