Is everyone who joined here in July 2008 a spammer ??

As a newbie, how can you tell/spot SPAM from a genuine freebie please?
Please forgive my ignorance due to being new and not wanting to upset other people.

spam in this forum normally comes in two forms :
1. a false/misleading topic title i.e free maybeline mascara, and when you click the link, usually an easyurl....it is actually a competition to win a house, or a speedboat.
2. referal posts...people that have and interest in the website they are linking to, i.e they gain from it, either as a referal scheme, and the link usally has a referal id in the url, i.e r599855, or actually work for the website, and doing a bit of self promoting, these belong in the referers forum, and are allowed in there if their interest in the website is stated in advance..cheers

I joined in july- I am not a spammer- though am not allowed to post threads -or I do post and nothing turns up.

Maybe the moderators stopped anyone who joined in July posting threads, hate it when people tar everyone with the same brush...

jenniewb I've checked all your posts and thread starts and your posts are there maybe just not in the board you thought you had posted in, one is in Freebies Gone and the other in Grabbit so they have been posted. If you click on your name you can check all your own posts and go to them from there.

As regards spam posts compared to the number of posts/threads started on MSE in any given day it really is a very small percentage, only seems a lot when all the boards are spammed and the threads bumped up unnecessarily. In fact they usually are removed very quickly and often before most people see them.

So nothing to do with people who joined in July being stopped from posting or even in January when you joined!

And a remimder for everyone to read this thread by FM as although posted on the Freebies board it does cover the expectations of conduct on all boards.

It's august now, so it'll look like anyone who joins in august 2008 is a spammer. That's cos the spammers join, spam, then disappear. Same as any other month.

I don't think there are anymore spammers from July 2008 than any other month , the BGs and abuse team do a great job of clearing the site of spam

Edingurghlass maybe the post by FM should be put on all boards for a while and Martins thread about what to say to people, when posting on wrong boards
