IDE to SATA II

Just got the cables to plug my new SATA drive in and was wondering that when I remove my old ide drive do I have to change the jumpers on my slave IDE to master for it to work? Before that I've just got to slipstream SP3 with my original XP disk!!
I'm mad!!!! :rotfl::jand celebrating everyday every year!!!

  • No.....dont think so. Won't hurt to carry on with it, the drive electronics still need to know what to do via the jumpers. Most new systems use Cable Select (CS) you can use that, as well as setting all devices to CS.

Why not get pata drive ? Speed lost in the conversion maybe. Why add more cable boxes.

No, you can leave them as they are. The only time it's an issue is if you have another drive connected on the same ribbon cable.

well if its a slave drive it may well be configured/jumpered as a slave in which case yes it will need to be set as master or cs when you remove the master.
