Sky+ ver very slow???

I have just had Sky+ installed and ready to "Change I watch TV forever"
I certanly have, I'm ready to check it out the window

Changing channels can be a frustrating 5 min job!

The box began to drive me a little nuts by a very loud ticking noise coming from it, but since disabling the rewind feature it is now fine, however the whole system is very very sluggish.

Opening the TV Guide and can take up to 10 seconds to make the selection of a programme and even then it does not always select which makes it near impossible to scroll through what's on.

To try and combat this I setup favourite channels and thought I would skip through the channels via the blue button and hit record on the shows I want, but still is very very sluggish and does not always work.

Is this the norm for Sky+? just checking before I give them a call?
Oh it's a Amstrad box if that's any help.

  • I have the same problems with speed

How did you stop the ticking? Its driving me up the wall. Due to my wireless setup the Sky+ box is about 2 feet to the left and and above my head when I'm sat on the sofa. As well as the ticking noise it also makes a noise that sounds like someone across the road has a drum kit!
Yes mine is an Amstrad too.
The best things in life are NOT free - but they sure are cheaper with MSE!:j
  • The noise is becuase Sky+ is like a PC Harddrive and will make the sound whenever you record anything.

However it is also setup to be able to rewind any channel, so whatever channel you are using it will be trying to record it for you in case you want to rewind the show.
As I do not use this feature, I disabled it and SILENCE.

Go To Services>>Sky+ Setup>>Instant Rewind OFF
  • It is usually only the amstrads which have a noise problem. I have a pace PVR1 (the original) and i cant hear it, even when i put my ear to it.

This wasnt a fast box in the first place but due to a recent update everyone is suffering from a sluggish box but yours seem to be even more slow.

I would ring sky and get a call out to change the box. When the installer calls to confirm a time ask him nicely to save you a pace box, also remind him when he arrives, if he really has no pace ones left then get a thompson but i would only accept amstrad as a last resort.

Also if you cant get a call out then keep ringing back everyday until you do, i am almost certain that you will eventually.
  • I have found the problem that is making my Sky+ remote very slow and unusable .

Guess What? There's Nothing wrong with my Sky Box It's Me

I have a video sender which sends the sky signal upstairs, on the front of my sky+ box I attach a tiny sticky aerial which enables me to use the Sky control in bed. This worked a treat with standard Sky Digital.

However, Sky+ box does not like it at all! Once I removed this little aerial, Sky+ remote control works a treat and fast
