British Gas 2011 Fixed Price Tariff

Options
Hi All

Amoung the bad news from British Gas yesterday, has anyone noticed they have now released a new fixed price tariff until September 2011 fixed at yesterdays new standard prices?

What are peoples thoughts on this?
Anyone got views/comments on this new tariff?

Thanks

Andy

They probably had to put it up so much to cover the cost of all the full-page colour ad's they took out in virtually every national newspaper today. That must've cost them a fair whack!
  • I think their ad should say "Fix yourself to our rip off prices until 2011".

I'd say it's a very poor taste joke from British Gas. I think everyone should switch now to give them something to think about.

Even if others put up their prices too at least British Gas would have to lower their prices or face going out of business, and it may create a domino effect.

This is the only power we consumers have left. Everyone should boycott British Gas. Them first then onto E.On...... See how long they last with no customers.
  • Having signed a 4 year deal with British Gas back in December 2006, I thought I was getting a good deal at 3.21p per unit at no standing charge. But then more recently I recieved a bill where they charged 99p per unit!

After admitting that they were wrong and sending me a new bill, I did some digging. Having found that for the past three years, they have been charging me out-of-contract prices for every bill - that is, 99p standing charge every day, for the past three years and unit prices ranging from 3p - 12p! But then when I ring them up, they say to me that my contract never existed!

Having rung them up for anywhere between 4 - 10 times a day for the past few days, I'm finally told that my contract does exist (after sending them proof - thankgod I kept it) and they sorted it out last October?!?? Without ever actually telling us what had happened! They then send me a spreadsheet, which requires a Harvard-Statician to decipher! That's right - they expected me to work it out for myself what has happened. But from what I can gather, they've been overcharging in excess of £2000 in the two years and perhaps even more between then and now, as I have bills which suggest that between then and now, they've gone back to their old tricks...

How do you call this customer service? And how can you call this British Gas - this isn't how us Brits do things! They need to reconsider their name... to perhaps Methane Gas. I will certainly not be recommending them to anyone I know, ever again.
