JVC or Sony?

Hi
I am looking into buying a digital camcorder, deciding between JVC GR-D290 and Sony DCR-HC19 and DCR-HC22. Does anyone have any expereince of either of these cameras? I couldnt tell if any of these took photos as well??
The JVC is slightly better spec, main difference being 25x optical zoom and the sony are 20x. Havent had any experience on camcorders before so I dont know if makes a big difference.
I heard that JVC are not the greatest for camcorders, they have a few faults. Also noticed that Sony accessories are alot more widely available, hence being cheaper.
Any advice appreciated!
