USB port problem

I now have 2 Sandisk cruzer mini USB memory sticks which when I put them in the USB port suddenly say they are malfunctioning.
I cannot, therefore, get any data off them. Up until now there have been no problems with them - or anything else - , so is it a problem with the actual memory sticks or have my USB ports gone wrong? How can I tell?
Thanks for any help you can offer.

Well, the best way would be to test them in another computer and see what happens, however, for both USB sticks to fail at the same time would be rare, so I'm guessing the problem lies with your computer and not the memory sticks

Is other USB hardware functioning correctly?

yes check them out on another PC

When you first insert a memory stick it needs to install a driver Windows 2000 & Xp have them built in but 98 needs a driver disk.

You didn't mention OS but in any case you may need to remove and reinstall this driver
