Have I done the right thing????

I am currently with N-Power Dual Fuel:

Gas:
first 2067 at 6.154p
above at 1.990p

Electricity:

first 206 at 14.150p
above at 13.600p

This is NOT including VAT @ 5%

I have just switched to E-On, using uswitch (free wine), to the Price Protection 2009 V17 Dual Fuel.

Gas:
5.314p per kWh
3.387p per kWh above 2680 kWh p.a

Electricity:
20.48p per kWh
12.34p per kWh above 900 kWh p.a

This is inclusive of VAT @ 5%

Can someone please tell me if I will be better off in the long run??? or should I have stayed with N-Power. I have a cooling off period.

I switched because of this being the LAST capped tariff.

Because of the tiers, we need to know what your usage is before we can tell you whether you're better off! How much of each do you use in a year?

Hard to say really, because this year I will be a hell of a lot more carefull than previous years.

At the start of the year I was paying £120 a month to N-Power, and then 3 months ago the monthly payment went up to £160, this was due to me being £350 in DEBIT, over the past 3 months I have used hardly any gas, and my account is now £70 in Credit. I used to put the central heating on all the time in the winter not giving a second thought to how much it would cost. This winter we will be getting the blankets out :rotfl:

Also , I have been on the phone to N-power tonight, and they confirmed that their prices would be going up very soon, so surely I have done the right thing.

If you're going to be using less, it's probably not worth looking at the usage and calculating... which saves on some maths ;)

Using less is the best way to keep the costs down. I suggest you start doing regular meter readings to get an idea of your usage, and have a look on the Green & Ethical board to see how other people are using less. Good Luck!

We need to know the number of units of each you've used in order to work that out. While you're digging out the paperwork (current meter reading minus whatever the reading was about 12 months ago), have a look at the other discussions that are going on here.

It's a difficult decision to make, and you're basically betting on how much prices are going to go up by between now and when you fix finishes. It's a gamble:eek:
  • I'm in the same boat, i am currently with scottish power and switched with uswitch to npower (with the free wine) , then decided it would be better to change my package with scottish power to the fixed rate 2009 before it ends. Contacted uswitch by email to cancel the npower agreement, no reply as of now, how long is the cooling off period? Not sure if i need to deal with uswitch or N power,

Does Uswitch not give you info on how much extra the E-on tariff would cost you?

As a (very) general rule of thumb I'd say if the capped tariff was less than 15% more than Npower then it would be worthwhile (as Npowers prices are more than like going to go up by more than 15% judging by EDF and BG's rises)

If its costing more than 15% more then its a bit more of a gamble

Think it was something like Saving -£55 per year, however, I didn't put my usage in, so it was an estimate on the size of my home and family.

What did it estimate your anual spend to be?

To me that doesnt sound too bad, under a fiver a month more than what you are paying at them moment, as you say though, thats an estimate but even so Npower has still to announce a rise that could cost you more than that if you stayed put.
