My poor lily

Oh I just wanted to have a whinge and wasn't sure where to post it, so hope this is OK. I grew some beautiful canna lilies, huge and cream - about 7 inches in diameter and they smelt divine. Then for the last two days it has rained and it has filled the lilies and broken them off the stem with the weight of the rain...:angry:

This was my first year growing them and I was so proud of them. My OH managed to rescue the second one and I have it in a vase on my desk. Apparently the rain has seen off most of my penstemons too, but they regrow so I can cope with that loss. Damned rotten bl**dy british weather!!

Just cos I loved them so much - here are three links to show how beautiful they looked before the weather hit them! Hope you didn't mind me having a vent!!

    Oh dear!

A shame but at least they will come back again next year - could be worse and be an annual and that would have been it. Always seems to really bucket down during summer and wreck our plants!!!

Lovely plant, beautiful colour, but I think it's a proper lily, not a canna lily, 'cos they look like this:

Very nice in their own way, but rather brash compared with yours.

As gazza says, at least they're perennials. Carry on feeding them & they'll be twice as good next year.

A small hole made with a large needle near to the base of each petal helps with drainage if you can't protect them (a plastic carrier bag over a ring of supporting bamboos does a great job!)
I'm mad!!!! :rotfl::jand celebrating everyday every year!!!

Very true and at least the bright pink stargazer lilies survived, but they don't have the perfume or elegance of my fave...!

Ahh thank you Dave, I will just call them lilies then! They were the first lily to grow in the garden this year tho they only recently flowered so will look forward to next years display and will label them correctly!

    Great tip, thank you!
