How good or bad is this TV

sorry if this isn't the right kind of techy question, but I didn't know where else to post it!

My son (age 16) is thinking about getting this tv

http://direct.tesco.com/q/R.202-1309.aspx

for his bedroom (I know - 37inch tv in a teenager's bedroom  - but it's his money and his choice).

Anyway he wants to (obviously) watch tv on it, watch DVDs on it, and most of all, play his Wii on it.

Is this going to be suitable? I know I've read "reviews" when Aldi or the likes have the HD TVs on offer, and they're not usually rated *that* highly.

I'm afraid it all just whooooooshes over my head - I honestly don't understand any of the technical stuff.

I just want to know if it's going to be good enough to do the above.

Can anyone advise - in as non-techy language as possible please :o

Hope he's got a big bedroom! To get optimum viewing he needs to sit 2.5 x the TV size away from it - so thats 7.7ft!!!!

No ratio stated so can't comment on that but less than 1:2000 isn't going to be the best, but it will be adequate for the non-perfectionist!

It's not a full hd tv but then neither is the wii so unless he has a PS3 or HD dvd player then it will be fine for what he wants.

Very good price for the spec which is probably why it's sold out !

Thank you - that distance should just about be right. From the wall mounted (naturally) TV to where he's decided his bed is going to go (whole room being refurbished!) is about 12 feet. Possibly a shade more. (From what you've said, I'm glad he changed his mind about the 42" one he initially wanted :rotfl:)

thank you for your inputs. Once he's been working longer and has a decent bit of savings again, he may decide to upgrade, but I'm sure from what you've said, that one will be perfectly adequate for the time being.

And we're not thinking of getting it from Tesco, but from a seller on Ebay who does graded or returned goods. Much much much cheaper than shop prices, and he can put up with some light scratches to the surround if he's saving that much. The last few of these TVs that they sold went for around the £200 mark.

We've bought stuff from them before, and have had a hard time identifying any marks on the stuff!
