My car was recovered to them because of a snapped alternator belt. I know about cars but haven't the time nor detailed expertise to work on them.
They spent 5 mins opening the bonnet and peering down at where the belt should be. They then made 3-4 phone calls to price an alternator belt, powersteering belt and tensioner. I was told £20 fitted for the alternator belt, £15 for the power steering belt and £146 for the tensioner! Adding VAT that came to a massive £220 for a fanbelt! They said the tensioner was worn and rusty. I could see no rust. I started getting nervous about them and tried to back out saying the car was old and wasn't worth paying that. When the "boss" realised I wasn't going to give them what they wanted he started getting quite aggressive, shouted at me and ordered me to pay £23 (£20 plus VAT) for their investigation(?). I wasn't allowed to take the car away (it started thankfully) until I had paid out.
I eventually got it fixed with my usual mechanic for £25. It needed both belts but the tensioner was fine. By the way a new tensioner is £30 plus VAT.
Hope this helps!

this one I would not recommend to anyone, I have had a lot of problems with these guys not so long ago. They replaced my water pump for around 200 pounds which worked for about 100 miles, then decided there is a problem with power steering pump and wanted this one replaced (around 500 quid for a new one). I went to another garage, paid 40 pounds for the repairs and it works perfectly now. They either have no clue what they are doing or are simply dishonest.
