can anyone help please-my pc which is quite new, sometimes wont shut down.It gets as far as showing windows closing down and then hangs there .The cursor wont move-ctrl/alt/delete wont turn it off either.Even pressing the button on the base unit doesnt shut it down!!The only option is to turn the main power supply off which i know isnt good practice.Any advice welcome. :confused:The pc is running win xp with avg-spybot and adaware SE personal.

Not the answer to your question but if tou hold the button on the base unit down for 3-5 seconds this should at least shut down your computer.

I've checked my updates and its all spot on.-I did however uninstall the display adapter driver, following windows help advice. It reinstalled on restart. So i'll just have to see how it goes.

sicker-I must admit i dont think i held the button down for that long.maybe thats why it didnt work.Must be more patient!!
  • I had a similar problem, it turned out to be my printers usb connection when I disconnected the cable everything was ok. When I contacted the printer makers they said there is sometimes a grounding problem between the usb and the motherboard.
