I'm sure I was paying the highest tarrif anyway with BG and SP, quarterly billing and standard rates.

So swapped to eon and hopefully if the prices tumble (ha ha) - then I can switch again.

I'm right in thinking PP17 is fee free to cancel?

I've capped with them as well today and was a BG customer like you. One was free to cancel, the other was £34 I think. Can't remember which letters and numbers they were.
I just feel relieved to have finally done something as I am kicking myself about not being organised with this.

  • Me too. I was on standard tariffs with BG and SP quarterly billing. I've been trying all afternoon to get through to SP to get their capped rate but not been able to get through. So switched to E-On online it definitely states the PP17 tariff is no tie-ins no cancellation fee. So I'll keep trying to get through to SP and if I do and they offer me a better cap I'll cancel my switch with E-On as they also say you have 14 days to cancel the switch.

I'm a bit baffled by all this. Is e-on as good as Scottish Power? Is this offer likely to be pulled soon as well?

Acording to Martin it could be pulled at any time, you could choose from two eon capped (both the same price but different conditions) , one had a cancellation fee, but they do give you a digital energy usage thingy so that you can see any time of day what energy you are using and go round the house madly switching things off, and the other capped rate had no cancellation fee, but no energy usage thingy, also I noticed eon said that if the standard price went down before the end of the capped rate, then the capped rate would also go down, but fat chance of that happening.
today I went for the capped rate with the cancellation fee, but with the energy usage thingy as I think it will be very useful.

Don't forget to go through Quidco - £55 for switching gas and elec/£25 for gas or elec:

I'm on BG Click Energy 5 Dual Fuel and it's roughly £660 for the year for both. Just switched to EON Capped 17 one (can't remember name) and it's gonna be roughly £833 (based on KWH consumption details) so a rise of £173 but I did go via Quidco so should be about £120.

I know Click Energy 5 will go up without a shadow of a doubt but now wondering if it will go up that much? (I have a feeling about 25% for gas)

Wondering now if I have done the right thing or not?

Thanks for the quidco thing. Would have gone for the £30 if you hadn't mentioned.

I'm a bit confused with the eon site though - it's asking me how much I want to pay a month.

I plumped for £100 a month - my current bills total £1200 - so I reckon that should cover it. And will try to get my usage down in the future too.

I capped with e-on yesterday, for gas and electricity. It cost me £12/month in total, which I was assured represented an 11% rise. Given that some reported rises are much higher than that, I'm hoping I've done the right thing...time will tell. If only Asda would let me do the same for my groceries!

I am in the process of changing from Southern Electric to the e-on price cap too. Received letter from Southern today saying sorry to hear I'm leaving them but when I phoned them about a month ago to see if they could offer me a good capped deal they didn't have one to compete. Can't see why they're surprised I'm leaving them!!!!!
