    Ha
Sitting the keyboard avoiding nips from my 11 week old kitten so I can relate. If he gets too carried away I put him down from lap as a clear messagethat I'm not his teething ring.
My other two cats aren't thrilled-especially as he's feisty enough to growl at them although he seems to be gradually making friends with the more placid of the two-the other one just glares balefully at him and did take a swipe at him when he had the audacity to play with her tail the other day-but he swiped her right back. Looked very silly as she's a long hair and with fur about five times his size as she stalked off very offended at his impertinence :)

One method I've used with kittens is to give out a really high pitched squeak when the kitten gets too rough. This is the sort of sound the other kittens would make to show that the play had got too rough and to stop.

Agree with this, this is what I did with my kittens, and now they never ever get their claws out when playing with us. Kittens normally learn these things through playfight with other kittens, and that is probably what your kitten is trying to do with your older cat.

As everyone has said, she will definitely grow out of it, but since this is a learning phase for her as well, take advantage of that by teaching her how to play with humans, not to scratch in the house apart from scratching posts etc...if they learn this stuff at the right time they grow up to be well behaved house trained cats..

Btw, just my persoanl opinion, but I think spraying with water thing is cruel, can be avoided by using other less unpleasant tactics _pale_
We got rid of the kids. The cat was allergic. ;)

My daughter would like a dog and I do feel its good for children to grow up with a pet but we lost out dog (she was 12) a couple of years ago and I was so upset did not get another. Now I don't want to get another dog as I have no one to take care of it while we work so I was thinking of getting her a kitten.

BUT are there any cats that don't moult? I know you can't choose (how picky am I :p ) but I would prefer a cat that is laid back and wants to be cuddled and spend time with us if you know what I mean.

Any advice particularly about the moulting would be great.

    Thanks
  • Hi to be honest I find the British Shorthair cats to be a good all rounder. They are very soppy, cuddly and have a reputation for being good with children due to their laid back attitude, they are very sturdy cats also, big boned.

Also their fur is extremely dense and short so they dont mult as much as regular moggies.

They can be expensive though, having said that you can get them for around £150 - £200 Most people keep these cats indoors as they are not good climbers and people are scared they would get stolen.

I guess I am a fan!! but overall I find these the best natured and they dont need daily grooming.

    Good Luck.

Awe I've just googled British Shorthair cats and I'm in love... How adorable... We have to have one :D

Not too keen on them not going out though :o I mean at least in the garden  coz I don't fancy keeping a litter tray forever???

My mum has a big soppy dog that we look after when she goes on holiday do you think there is a chance I could get them used to each other?

    Hi

I have recently got a maine coon kitten ( gorgeous fluff ball) who incredibly barely molts at all. she gets brushed once a week, and there is barely any hair comes off her. I have a domestic shorthair and he molts far more than her.

You won't believe she doesn't shed when you see what they look like though! It's something to do with the texture of their coats I believe, which is much silkier to the touch than most cats.

p.s. just saw your comment about temperament - her temperament is AMAZING - they are a vry good natured breed overall which is why we went for one as we needed to be sure she would settle with our existing cat. few weeks down the line they sleep, eat, cuddle and groom each other. she also likes to sleep cuddled up on my chest.
