Just changed to this and am aware its a one year contract but wanted the free energy monitor as wanted to see costs etc but now think i should have gone for the other eon tariff with no contract Price Protection option 9?Switching from EDF by the way. Please can someone advise how the home energy monitor works and if it is worth getting as think maybe I should have opted for the other tariff that had no cancellation policy. Thank you.

If they are using the energy monitoring device to lock you in on that tariff, then I would say that it's not worth it, as these monitors can be bought for £35 or less on ebay when the novelty value wears off for those that have them. They basically have a remote display telling you how many pence you are spending on electricity at that time - wow!

The OWL man of MSE will no doubt be along shortly with his comments, telling you just how fantastic they are .

  • Hi,

I've just switched to this tariff, as far as I can see there is no difference between this tariff and the Price Protection 2009 v17 tariff with the exception of a free monitor but a withdrawal penalty if you switch before the contract expires. PP2009 V17 doesn't come with an energy monitor but there are no withdrawal penalties.

I went for the monitor purely because I love gadgets. I know the monitors aren't 100% accurate but it's a tool which may help me reduce the cost along with the other measures I have in place.

    T&C's

We may charge you a cancellation fee of £35 if the events in (ii) and (iii) above or if you move home and do not continue with Energy Saver or you do not take another E.ON gas or electricity product before the Energy Saver end date. Your Energy Saver product and Terms and Conditions will transfer to your new premise.

    Thanks!
I love gadgets too - do you plug in to each gadget at home to check usage at the time or does it show elec use for your whole house at the same time? (i.e. like seeing the meter outside?) Just not sure exactly what to expect.

I have switched to this tariff too, simply because I'd like the monitor to see where I can reduce my electricity consumption (or more to the point to persuade hubby to save!).

ForkHandles - I read that T&C to mean you can switch to another Eon product and not get penalised?

They monitor the whole house consumption and display the cost in pence that it's costing you. When you switch something off, the display price drops. Rocket science!

  • Hi,

I think it's the type where you fix something near the meter and put the monitor in your house somewhere (wireless) and it estimates how much electricity is coming into the house.
