I have just been listening to radio 2 and Martins recommendation to lock in was mentioned. Be warned still check the prices against the other tariffs. An example of this is E-ON. Their lock in price per unit is almost DOUBLE the Energy Online extra saver tariff. Oil prices have started to drop. Even with a 30% or 50% price rise you could still be better off on the savder tariff

Disagree - according to BBC News this morning, oil prices are likely to rise back up.

I also disagree about the comparison with the Energy Online extra saver tariff.

Recently (from 1st June in fact) users on the Energy Online Extra Saver tariff were migrated to the Energy Online plan. The rates on this were (at least in my region - Eastern):

Electricity (up to 900kWhs): 18.795p, then 10.458p thereafter
Gas (up to 2680kWhs): 4.5696p, then 2.9127p thereafter

The Price Protection 17 plan is:

Electricity (up to 900kWhs): 20.769p, then 11.5605p thereafter
Gas (up to 2680kWhs): 5.31405p, then 3.3873p thereafter

By my calculation this is a 16% rise in Gas, and 10% rise in Electricity. Nowhere near the 'Double' quoted by the OP, and almost certainly less than the forthcoming increase will be.
