Shipperless with no gas bill

Options
Recently I looked at capping my gas and electric supplies. I thought that I had a dual supply from Scottish Hydro Electric with both gas and electric being paid for by a joint direct debit.

On making enquiry with Hydro Electric I was told that they hadn't supplied gas to my address since 2003.

On there advice I contacted Transco and was told that they did not hold any gas supply details for my address, that the supply must be dead and that I should contact a gas supplier to arrange this. Despite me trying to explain my situation they informed me that they receive thousands of similar calls and gave me the impression that it wasn't there problem.

On futher enquiry Hydro Electric did not have a final meter reading and could not tell me why they stopped supplying my gas or indeed if another company took over the gas supply.

I genuinely do not know who supplies my gas if anyone and am a bit shocked having assumed that my Direct Debits were for dual supplies.

I have read lots of threads on similar but different scenarios. I would be gratefull for any advice on

- should I apply for a new supplier as a shipperless address
- would my new supplier backcharge for the last 5 years
- would they be limited in what they can re claim
- any other advice

Thanks

right what you need to do is contact any gas supplier of your choice - energywatch has a full list and they will arrange for a supply for you - this is a standard enquiry recieved at national grid ( formerly transco)

When you called national grid they would have checked their database and it is showing that no supplier has registered with them as supplying gas to that property, hence they advised you to pick a supplier of choice, alternatvely contact the connections telephone number on the national grid website they may be able to advise you further
I am responsible me, myself and I alone I am not the keeper others thoughts and words.
