Don't worry if you have a light-weight machine, either put it on a table that's big enough to hold all the fabric or strap it down on a smaller table! (Have done this and it works!)What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare0

Hi, happy2bhere
You sound just like me. I've just got my machine out after a few years gap. I am now making myself learn how to sew 'properly'. One site I have found to be very helpful is http://sewing.patternreview.com/ and today I discovered http://www.thesewingforum.co.uk/index.php. I generally wing it too, take short cuts and avoid really difficult things. My aim is to make a fitted shirt with collars and cuffs etc. I've been making my daughter jammies with collars and surprised myself with how good they are(need more practise on sleeves though.
I'm serously thinking about buying a new machine as mine is very tempremental (Toyota EC-1) which stops me getting it out more often. Spent 2 hours yesterday trying to get the tension right and just when I got it ok the bobbin kept jamming up . I would have thrown it across the room except it's to heavy!.
Should have got a new one years ago when I think of the blood, sweat and tears I have shed over this one. I just didn't realise you could get them so cheaply now.
Only problem is there are just so many of them to choose from.
I would love to hear how you get on with yours, I think I might go for another toyota just because I'm familiar with them and I need to narrow down the choice a bit.0 -
Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere (please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. If you have any questions about this policy please email abuse@moneysavingexpert.com.0

Just a word of caution re coopers...I ordered a machine on sun and was promised mon or tues delivery, it arrived today and was the wrong model. What they did was to put the details of the more expensive model on the description of mine and then I was given a choice - pay more or get a refund. While I did negociate the price the manner of staff was less than sympathetic or apologetic (& I was really upset as had been so happy with my bargain and felt it marred the whole thing) plus I have since heard that their promise to collect and service machines free is untrue as they charge quite a bit. would be interested to know others experience of them in the long run - ie have people tried to have their machines serviced? Just wanted to send a note of caution...do now feel that they come under the "if its too good to be true it probably is" category...Plus they are also using someone quoting MSE in their compliments page....umm at this stage certainly couldnt recc them...Nerd no 109 Long haulers supporters DFW #1!
