E:WSL 17/11/04 It's back! Nokia 7600 @ £4.99/month

Posted here because this offer has a history of appearing on the Carphone Warehouse very fleetingly before being removed again.

Hi Guys -

Update: For PAYG version of this handset - see HERE.

In case anyone missed this last time, Carphone Warehouse have just republished their Nokia 7600 deal on 3 Talk & text 600 (500 cross-network minutes & 100 texts per month) for only £4.99 per month. By comparison, E2Save is currently quoting £7.99/month for the same package.

In case anyone asks, I'm almost certain that there's NO bluetooth headset included in this deal.

If it's as short-lived as the last time they advertised this (removed within hours) I would advise making your mind up quickly this time.

Added after Steeev pointed this out: If you have an old brick gathering dust at the bottom of a draw somewhere, you can get another £20 cheque back by trading it in with a manual and charger (handset = £10, charger = £5 & manual = £5) - Carphone Warehouse will send you a postage paid jiffy bag that you can send it all back to them in.

Don't forget that this is currently the ONLY Hutchison 3G handset that can be fully unlocked and factory reset to reveal a hidden menu to allow you to lock it down to a 2G signal, thus making it fully useable on any of the 4 main 2G networks in the UK. A fuller explanation of what this is all about has been published on my website. A link to this article can be found via my post on the referrer's board (see my signature below).

Don't forget...you could save yourself a few pounds more by using a cashback site. See Martin's article on this subject. If you've not yet signed up to one of these sites and you can be bothered to do so, please use MARTIN's referral link which can be found in his article as any earnings from the referral will help to pay for the maintenance of this site and some of the sit'e earnings will go to charity.

Update (18/11/04 @ 12.30am): This deal is now also available at E2Save. If you want to obtain a bit more cashback and also benefit Charity, I would suggest contacting Payless (a regular user of this board). If you use his E2Save refer a friend link, he gets £20. From this £20, he's willing to pass you £10 and give the other £10 to a charity of your choice. Unlike other such offers, he will send you TWO cheques, one of which is made out to the charity for you to pass on. That way you KNOW the remainder has been donated to charity as promised. If anyone else comes along and offers you an alternative cashback/charity split of their refer a friend bonus, for the sake of the charity concerned, I would strongly recommend that you insist on seeing both cheques.

    That doesn't surprise me.

I am almost certain that the current reappearance of both the contract and PAYG versions of this handset on their website is deliberately timed to build up a back-order book which they will be able to satisfy when the handsets arrive. In which case, don't be alarmed when/if you receive a standard "out of stock" email as it will simply be sent to tell you that your order will be held open pending the arrival of new stock.

I imagine that its prolonged absence from their website was due to uncertainty surrounding future supplies of this handset and they have now decided to readvertise only because they have secured a guaranteed stock of these phones (pure speculation but a reasonably educated guess). If not, then it's a very grave error on their part given the history of this handset continually appearing and disappearing on their site over the past month or so.

Anyway, if you want one, it doesn't hurt to order one online and just sit tight and wait and see what actually happens. Afterall, it does say it's a web exclusive so maybe telesales are simply refusing to sell it until it's actually in stock and web customers are being allowed to jump the queue (for once!) and get it on back order. The worst that can happen is that they cancel your order and you still have the right to cancel it yourself at any point while waiting for stock to arrive.

Is there a con with this, ie after 12 months at 4.99 do you have to continue for a period for a higher price?

Also do you actually pay 4.99 or do you pay more and have to claim cashback?

I joined something called greasy palm and see a lot of talk about points schemes here, are they really worth bothering with?

    Thanks

It's a WEB EXCLUSIVE - so it's possible that telesales have been told NOT to sell it (at least not until the handsets actually come in next week). Maybe they'r giving the online customers priority for once by allowing them to place a back order and get to the front of the queue.

They've advertised this deal on tehir site before only to pull it hours later so it would be business suicide to repeat that mistake - hopwever, teh PAYG handset is also back up on their site after a prolonged absence so I doubt that it's an isolated website mistake.

Hi Gigsboy and welcome to MSE.

it is indeed a case of paying full line rental (£30/month) and claiming cashback in two stages after 6 & 12 months by sending in your latest bill.

However, Carphone Warehouse are amongst the most reliable cashback payers that I know of - I must have had at least 3 or 4 cashback contracts from them over the past few years and I've NEVER had a cause to chase them for my money. It's also one of the safest cashback retailers as, being one of the largest and most well established mobile retailers in the UK, all hell would break loose if they managed to go bust before paying out (unlike a number of smaller and lesser known cashback retailers).

I get confused sometime regarding cashback.

It says that you need to send in the "6th" bill and then it says your 6 month bill. These are actually two different thngs. You get your 6th bill after 5 months and your 7th bill after 6 months.

So do they actually want the "7th" bill which will prove that you have been on the contract for 6 month, or the "6th" bill?

    Thanks
