Two way mirror is known as 'mirrorpane' It is very very very expensive. Any glaziers should be able to supply it, but, probably wont have it in stock.

It only works fully when there is a differential in light of at least 70/30. This means it has got to be a lot darker from the side you want to see from. Having it in one room wouldn't work as the light would be the same on both sides of the mirror.

Being a shower door, the glass would have to be safety. Mirrorpane does come in a laminated version which is regarded as safety, however, if you got any change out of £500 for a shower door in this glass I would be amazed.

I've been a glasscutter for over twenty years. The last time I sold some of this glass about 3 years ago, it was over £200 a square meter.

  • I need just under a square m and it would be lit from underneath, so you looked down on to it.
  • Thanks for the informative reply Rex - I had come across Mirrorpane as I looked around the web but there was never an indication of price.

Apart from the cost - which might prove prohibitive, are there any other disadvantages? Would Mirrorpane stand up to the damp, humid conditions of a bathroom. I'm thinking it should be OK because it is used on the outside of a lot of modern buildings.

If you are really into the idea of having an effect on your shower doors, how about trying a local shop that puts film onto glass. You know the type of thing sometimes used on car windows.

Have a look here to see the sort of thing I mean http://www.abodewindowfilms.co.uk/ Look under Privacy Mirror film. You can get all sorts of finishes, colours or patterns. If you find a local supplier, they normally offer an onsite installation service. Buy normal clear toughened glass shower doors, then get your local shop round to put the film of your choice on it. This is a much cheaper option than any specialist glass. They could also advise you on the best finish. I went through some samples once, there were at least 300 different types of film.

    Hope this helps.

  • Cheers Rex - that looks like it might be a plausible (and cost effective) solution.

Halloweenqueen - I can pass on the (very few) links that I found that might be suitable for your needs:

Acylic sheet, US company - ships internationally

UK company - look for the section "PILKINGTON REFLECTIVE GLASS"
