The wide straps and underwired cups of the top offered the appropriate level of support for that regal bosom, while the bottoms were cut just so to show off a shapely thigh and toned tummy.
Ever since the picture emerged, fashion journalists, style obsessives and millions of ordinary women have been desperately trying to find out where the bikini is from.
Now, Femail can exclusively reveal that the holy grail of bikinis is, in fact, made by a French lingerie company called Darjeeling.
The style, Bermude (or Bermuda) comes in a choice of three bottoms and three tops - Helen Mirren went for the balcony-style top, available in chest sizes 32 to 36 and cup sizes B, C, D and E; the bottom comes in sizes 8 to 14.
The bikini is not sold in Britain, and thanks to the Mirren influence it has virtually sold out across France.
But do not despair. Femail has managed to get hold of five sets - and today we are offering our readers the chance to win them.
