Do I have economy 7?

Options
Im a bit confused, our electric meter has 3 readings which scroll on it; rate 1, rate 2, and total.
I *think* rate 1 is night rate?
I have recently moved to Npower capped 2011 tariff, does this mean that electric is cheaper at night or do you need to be on a specific tariff for this to be the case?

It sounds like what you have is a 2-rate meter which is typically used for E7. Does your house have electric heating (i.e. storage heaters)? If yes then you are better off on a E7 tariff, if you dont and most of your consumption is between 7am and midnight then you are almost certainly better off on a standard 24/7 tariff. You dont need to change the meter to go onto a 24/7 tariff. Hope this helps.

You have E7 meter Total is both rates added together ignore this. Best way to find out which rate is which. If you are home during day take set of reads then use power & only 1 rate should move this determines which is your day rate.
  • Thanks, I have done as XPL advised and it seems that rate1 is daytime.
I am a stay at home mum so use a fair bit of electric during the day. Just becuase we have one of these meters does that mean that we will be paying more for electric during the day or do you have to be on an Economy7 tariff for this to happen?

Your day rate will be slightly higher than a standard tariff but this is offset by the 7hrs cheap rate you get at night. You should be on E7 tariff if you look at your bill breakdown will have day & night prices. Tip for you Use high electric usage items like Washing machine/Dishwasher/Tumble dryer on night rate if you can saves you a lot more.for E7 this is between 00:30-07:30(summer) & 23:30-06:30 (winter). If you are not up that late or early you can get timers from DIY stores that plug into socket & you plug appliance into this & set thi time. The change is when the clocks go back/fwd & meter will auto adjust itself but the time on the display will not but this does not affect the changes
