My Money saving skills will be staying with me on my travels & before. Have already found some brand name backpacks on ebay & gumtree, so that will save a bit of money. There's load to think about, insurance, visa's, and lots of costs that will mount up. I'd also like a grand here for when I get back so I dont find myself back to square 1.
I am determined to do it as cheaply as possible (but want to have the money there just for peace of mind), and I will still be hunting out the cheapest places to stay/eat/tours etc - although I will let my hair down a little :0)
Thanks for your advice. xx
Yep there is a ton of things to sort out before you go! I've been round the world twice now (it does get easier the second time!) First time round I didn't even know this board existed. However I luckily knew about the Nationwide debit and credit cards, they were my biggest money saver.
What ever you do don't skimp on your travelpack, spend a bit of money to get a good quality one (personal recommendation Karrimor). Make sure it has a good back system, it is crucial.
Please feel free to ask questions about doing the RTW, cause I know it can seem to be daunting thing, but in reality its the best thing I have ever done.
I think, but you will need to double check this, there is a RTW involving BA and QF which is valid for 18 months."An eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind" - Mahatma Gandhi0 -

Hello. Thanks again. It was Karrimor & Berghaus I was looking at.... I would probably take 60ltr (although I say that now, it depends, I have looked into it all that much at the moment).
How much money did you take with you? Where did you go etc? As much information as you could provide would be fab!!!
To be honest I was planning on spending the full 12 months in NZ & 12 months in Oz so I will buy a RTW ticket but forfeit the return journey, as I was planning to go to a few places before I get to Oz anyway..
I will definately be applying for a Nationwide Acct, already found that :0)
Message me off board if you like with as much information as you can give (if you dont mind).
I cant wait to be honest. xx0 -

I took a 60 ltr Vango pack which had an adjustable back frame - it was ideal as I have a very short back and there was nothing else on the market that I could wear comfortably back then (1995). In addition to this I bought two additional 5ltr side pockets which were great because when I didn't have to carry so much food and tents etc they just rolled up until they took up no space.
It was a long time ago and pack technology has changed since then, but the additional pockets were probably the most useful thing I took (except ziplock bags and duct tape)

Congratualtions! A young man came into my work today to pay off the final bit of a debt on his bank account and it reminded me that you were also debt free today - I had a big smile on my face knowing that good things happen to those who try!
