Are you sure it's the history that you are having problems getting rid of?

Are the results you can't get rid of appearing in the url bar only?

Firefox 3 has what it calls the 'awesome bar'. Whereas other browsers only show history in the url bar when you start typing, Firefox will also show sites from your bookmarks there as well.

If it's your bookmarks that are appearing, here is a vid on how to disable it.

I had the exact same problem. Thankfully the latest version of ccleaner does the job. It actually clears your browser history, rather than just saying it's been cleared.

It's still list your bookmarks in the drop down.

It's not clear if this is resolved or not.

Umm, I use the Delete key.

To zap items from a drop List I press Ctrl+Del.
Hope it works for you, too.

You might need to disable the Smart Bar as it gets on my nerves too!

This won't disable the new location bar, there's no way to do that yet. It'll just make the new smartbar act more like FF2's location bar, so it'll stop showing the URL's. It won't stop FF3 storing all the visited URL's.

Sorry to hijack but can anyone help me with a problem I have with Firefox 3. Say if I am browing this site now and then click it off and stop surfing, when I come back to open up a new firefox window it opens the last page viewed even though I have cleared the cookies etc. Does anyone know how to stop it happening.
  • try tools - options - main - change this box to When Firefox starts - show my home page

From the Tools menu, select Options
click Main at the top (If it's not already selected)
From "When Firefox Starts" drop menu, select "Show my homepage"
