Cheapest way to book a cruise?

Evening ladies and gents,
Can anyone advise me on the cheapest way to book a cruise? Can a better deal/onboard extras be haggled with the Travel Agents, or is booking direct, with the cruise line's online price the best bet? Teletext even?
We will be first time cruisers, but unfortunately we've missed out on the 09 brochure release prices, and we're quite specific with where we'd like to visit (Med with an Egypt/ North African port- somewhere we wouldn't book a holiday for a whole two weeks) so a late deal may be a bit too iffy.
We think cruising may be the best option for us as we will have a 2 year old little un with us, but with the great childcare that a cruise offers, we'll be able to have a good time. Oh, and we live near Southampton, so not having to go on a plane with a small child would be a bonus! However, due to a cruise being pricier than our average holiday, we'd love to find a way to get the best price on an inside cabin.
