Hi
For some reason my win xp keeps downloading the above update and tells me it is ready to install. I install it and then a few days later it says the same again.
I have installed it now about 10 times!
Does anyone know why this happens and how to fix it????
Thanks

Have a look for error messages in C:\Windows\KB896688.log.

Hi robnye
When you say you ran it manually, what did you do?
Go to tools in IE and then windows update? I did that but it just happens again. All that glisters is not gold, except moneysavingexpert.com0 -
I had the same problem with KB823353
I ended up having to uninstall another patch then manually installing it again after '53 (with this)
Not a help for you - but if you can find by searching an update that is conflicting with it then you may be able to follow the same sequence.0 -
Download it from http://download.microsoft.com/download/3/9/c/39c0e5fa-272a-4442-a31a-bf280f435aee/WindowsXP-KB896688-x86-ENU.exe and install manually.0

Thanks Chippy - Just tried that now. I will see how I get on in the next few days.
Thanks SRA - I will try that if the above does not work. However, when I initially searched I could not find anything about it.All that glisters is not gold, except moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Ok manually installing it did not work and it keeps reinstalling everyday!
I cant find anything re sra's suggestion either.
Any other ideas anyone pleaseAll that glisters is not gold, except moneysavingexpert.com0 -
See this thread (particularly the last reply) and this thread.
All sorts of suggestions in those threads, but I would try the simplest first: try disabling your AV. If that doesn't work, uninstall your AV, run the manual installation you downloaded earlier and reinstall your AV.0 -
Thanks Chippy
the first one does look promising and I will try that. All that glisters is not gold, except moneysavingexpert.com0
