Advice on selling a Car on ebay

Although I sell alot of items on eBay, I have never sold a car before and I have been asked by a friend to sell their car. So, any advice ot tips would be appreciated. Got reasonable amount of info/spec and photos. It will be cash on collection to avoid the scammers.

Cheers
Rockee

    Hi

In my experience, ebay is the best way to get the highest price for cars under £2500 as long as you do the following things:

    1) loads of pictures (use an image hosting site to avoid paying more ebay fees) which are clear (nothing more offputting to a buyer than blur pictures)

    2) honest description of ALL the defects - somehow buyers are more willing to bid when they see a list of faults accurately described, probably an issue of trust.

    3) a realistic reserve - check ebay for completed sales and also autotrader. I find that parker's always overestimate the value of your car.

    4) make sure your car is listed regionally as well, the ideal scenario is someone down the road popping around to see the car and paying cash without completing the transaction on ebay.

    Kind regards

top tip there, I never upload images to ebay, I always upload them to my free webspace provided by my ISP.
You can show the images for free that way, as Ebay charge to display piccies.

had to highlight it, one of the best ebay selling tips I think.

HONESTY is the key more than anything, after all the winner is going to be visiting you!

Provide pictures of anything that may look untoward, scratches, dents, etc. and telling them exactly what they are buying.

Allow the bidders to view the car (before the auction ends that is!) and explain that they are bidding to BUY the car not to VIEW the car! Some people will come around and expect you to drop the price because they say it's not as good as it they were expecting... tough! They had the chance to view the car!

Lots of piccies shwoing car from every angle includign the interior.

List EVERYTHING the car has! Even if it may be standard.

Use emotional words to attract buyers like "lovely", "beautiful", "safe (as long as it is!), "deligthful drive (as logn yorunot selling a tow-truck or something)... I'll leave the synonyms to you.

Lots of pictures, show the good points and bad points.

    As much infomation as possible.

Include very detailed and specific collection or delivery instructions, including the prices etc...

    Detailed payment instructions.

Note that non-paying bidders will be followed up for fees.

Make sure the pictures are quality pictures which show clearly the exterior and interior of the car ( pictures say a thousand words). As well as a detailed listing page make sure your friend is available to answer any questions put by potential bidderS.

Thanks for the advice. More or less have put most of the suggestions in the listing. We will have to see what happens, fingers crossed.
