I have got a lot of documents at work that are filed for future reference and was thinking of creating a simple digital database with the titles (that I can scroll through) of the documents being clickable to open the scanned file itself. As I have no clue on how to work with databases, I would be grateful for any guidance or pointers to a simple piece of software that could do the trick ( I have googled and ended up with a headache). Thanks in advance for any help.

I meant location?
Hard drive, CD or a pen drive etc.
I use whereisit daily but my copy is very old, I use it to scan CD/DVD's but you can also scan Hard drives or just folders.
Find the item in the search and if the drive is connected it will open it.0 -

My files are all stored on the computer's hard drive.Do I want it? ......Do I need it? ......What would happen if I don't buy it??????0 -
I think it will do all that.
Does it have a free trial?
You point it at the folder/drive and it will catalogue everying in that folder/drive.
You can edit the names of items to what ever you like in whereisit they do not change the actual files.0 -
Just today I was reading this about Radiologists using Itunes to catalogue pdfs, but that wouldn't be much use for your jpgs as Itunes doesn't support them (except as album art)0

SRA on a separate but slightly related note and being the 'iTunes Guru', is there yet a portable version of iTunes? Google is showing some torrents but I don't know how safe or reliable these are.Do I want it? ......Do I need it? ......What would happen if I don't buy it??????0

I don't think it's easy. There are a few suggestions on this thread.
I think the easiest way would be using MojoPac - but personally I find MojoPac a bit annoying to get on with. You can't just run things from your USB drive, you have to launch and wait for MojoPac to get its hooks into the system your working on before you can access the apps you've installed on it.0
