    Fixed Discount 2010

    Cheaper energy guaranteed until 2010*
Choose the Fixed Discount 2010 tariff and you can be reassured that your energy prices will be 2% cheaper than our Standard Energy Online tariff.*
    That's what I thought originally.

eg If price went up by 10% you would only pay 8%
Which is clearly wrong. This is why I have little faith in call centre staff giving correct information.

xpl51: You will have to point out where I made any accusations. I can't see any.

Well mech i work in one of the call centres & ensure the customer is aware of what it entails & we don`t just sign someone up because they phoned about it.

I guess the signing people up without them knowing the facts is usually dont by the doorknockers as far as SE goes, they go out of their way to lie to people which is why it wouldnt surprise me if this was a deliberate attempt to mislead people, just like the door knockers mislead people.

Actually, I can imagine doors being knocked across the country and this tariff being mis-sold by SE salesman, it seems like it was set up for them!
    Missing Tesco R&R since Feb '07 :A & now a "Tesco veteran" apparently! ;)
  • I have fallen for this trap, I though this was a fixed price. The lady on the phone did garble something at the end of the call using the word tracker but I didn't realise what she meant, and the uswitch site did say it was fixed - I searched for fixed deals!!

So now it doesn't seem I can do anything about it - are there other deals? Does it cost a fortune to get out of? Am I on the worst deal?

Also, am I tied into this if I haven't signed any paper work? It was all done on the phone and I have just moved into the property (rented) previous tenant was with British Gas which is why I rang Southern Electric.

    Please help v worried

I think you should be more careful of accusations without foundation
If you read the threads it has been explained clearly

I completely agree with you here xpl51,

You are getting some unfair abuse here so i'll lend you a hand. The details of this tariff are in its name. Fixed Discount 2010. Every fixed price tariff mentions that key word Price e.g. Fixed Price or Price Protection.

Due to Martins scaremongering people have been panicking all over the country and switching to fixed deals like crazy people without checking the t's & c's of the tariff they are applying for.

If Uswitch advertised that this was a fixed price till 2010 then this is their fault and their fault only and it should have been reported. I phoned SSE and was informed straight away that this was not a fixed price tariff.

I dont see how xpl51 has got it wrong here??

The Fixed Discount 2010 is guranteed to be 2% lower than there standard rates. Therefore if next month, SSE announce an increase of 20% then this tariff will go up by 18%.

Therefore I believe xpl51 to be right, unless someone can advise me otherwise??

    Hi,

This is my first post so sorry if I get this a bit wrong...

I'm not sure if this has already been mentionned but you already get a 2% discount on your bills at SE for signing up to online billing. When I spoke to them about the 2010 Fixed Discount tariff last week they told me that signing up to that rate would mean forfeiting the online billing discount that I already have...so not really any better off :-(
  • I agree with this, I did panic but thought I was running out of time, I would really have struggled with British Gas price hikes - have I made it even worse moving to SOuthern Electric?

Maybe not worse but you haven't got a fixed price tariff. So if SSE increase their prices, which they will do, then your prices will go up as well.

It's already 2% lower than standard rates. A price rise isn't necessary to gain the 2%. So if standard rates go up by 20%, Fixed Discount 2010 goes up by 20%. Otherwise the "discount" would end up being more than 2%.

This seems crazy to me, does anyone know exactly WHAT is happening to the price of oil?!?!?! I heard fomr many different sources that the price of oil is on it's way back down. No one here nows for sure, nor do they even know if southern electric will increase their prices. I spoke to Npower the other day who told me they WEREN'T increasing their prices because oil is getting cheap?! Why would you wanna FIX for prices til 2011 on a crazy HIGH rate when u have NO idea what is going on?> BGAS have get out charges and crap customer service! My research tells me that southern electric would have to increase their prices by 54% to meet what BGAS's prices are! There are lot's of savings out there just not all suppliers shout about them. If ur on low income or your usage is really high, dd's etc. You just need to speak 2 ur supplier and ask for advise.
I personnally haven't done anything but im sure southern electric will do something to help their customers out, me being one of them.
