I have a ballpoint pen which belonged to my father,I bought it for him with my first wage packet in 1975 and have had it since he died 12 years ago. I don't use it much because they don't make that model anymore and I did not think I could get a refill.
Eventually it stopped working and I searched for refills that would fit, with no success. Took it into Smiths where they tried a few refills but because of the way the mechanism worked none of them fitted. They asked if I would leave the pen and they would ask the rep next time he came in.
Two weeks later I got a phone call to go and collect the pen. It had a refill, which looked like it had been modified, they did not charge me and they gave me another refill 'just in case'.
