counter top sink

Hi,

I'm getting a new bathroom fitted, finding the whole thing quite confusing. I really like the look of the modern countertop sinks (with cupboard underneath to hide all our bottles etc.. ) but the only ones I can see seem to cost about £600  once you buy the unit, and that's not including the toilet or bath! I wondered if you can you buy the sink and supply your own counter? And where might you find a counter? Or do i just have expensive taste!

Thanks for all suggestions

I buy ours from Next (in the sale) I've just bought a cabinet for £85. Last year I got a smaller one for £35 (another MSEr helped me find that one!), found a place on ebay selling basins for £49 and taps (£29 I think for ours) and got our plumber to adapt it for the stuff we'd bought.

Finished article :) The pic is a bit rubbish because the wide angle lens has skewed it all because it's only a small room. The tiles aren't that dark either.

They still have an open unit in the Sale for £40 and still have the set that I've bought too! Does this work?

If not, go to sale, then choose homeware and then bathroom accessories :)

  • Try having a look at a company called TC Bathrooms they do quite a large range and the retail prices aren't as high as you might expect, all the products are imported from the far east but the quality control is very very good.

Thanks for those suggestions, that's really helpful. I would never have thought of next for anything other than clothers, their stuff looks nice. I'll check out tc as well, I'm glad to see there are cheaper options than B&Q and Bathstore!

  • We are in the process of having our bathroom fitted at the moment and it includes a washbowl sink. We looked at buying a unit to put it on etc but struggled to find one we liked (or that fitted). Our fitter came up with the solution - he is building a boxed out section from the wall for the sink to sit on. This will all be tiled and underneath the sink he is going to build either a cupboard or some alcove shelves (not decided which yet).

This boxed out section is also going to contain the concealed cistern for the toilet and other shelving/surfaces for keeping things on. If you're going for an entire new bathroom then you might want to consider something like this.
