Independant Gas Transporter
Options
Hi, after a bit of guidance please. I looked into changing to a capped tariff on my gas an elec (currently with EDF) and was told me gas is supplier by an IGT, and it will cost £42 to switch suppliers. Is there any way round this? I'm really too tight to pay it!
Thanks:rolleyes:

Unless you have a contract with the IGT why are they saying it will cost you to switch. When you change suppliers you are not changing network provider.IT Consultant in the utilities industry specialising in the retail electricity market.

The fact that your shipper of gas is an IGT has nothing to do with any charges to changed supplier. You will need to check with your supplier to see why they are charging you - it's not your shipper's fault.0

Some companies do charge more if your Gas is suppled by an IGT, I know Scottish Power do as I've been flicking through their pricing booklet, British Gas don't but I'm not sure about others.0

I just phoned the number on my EDF gas bill, apparently my transporter is a private company called ESB. Hmm I didn't realise this was going to have implications on moving suppliers.0

IGT's are basically where housing developers pay a cheaper company to put in the pipes, rather than National Grid Transco, they're a bit of a nightmare, it can take longer to transfer suppliers, longer for accounts to be setup I have seen cases where it has taken 9 months for a new Gas Account to be setup just beacuse the flow of information from an IGT is so much slower.0 -

just what I thought... Persimmon being tight !!!!!! and paying the cheapest possible price for pipes!0 -
The charge isn't to switch suppliers, but some suppliers will charge you more per year (£42 here) when you go to them.
It might be EDF saying that you would pay this charge with other suppleirs but not with them (not sure if they do or not), but as above, some other suppliers don't charge extra.0 -
BG don't charge at the moment. Other supplers who offer BG matching tariffs won't therefore charge either but they're not capped/fixed in my experience. Eon have temporarily withdrawn their Guarantee (BG price beating product) I guess until they raise prices. This doesn't have an igt charge in it.0
