ING problem paying in cheque

I have had an ING account for some time with no problems until now.
Last Friday I posted a cheque to them and as usual put my account number on the front to the right of my name.Today the cheque still hadn't shown on the account so I gave the a phone call.
I have now been told that if the cheque is printed (mine was)and you write your account number on the front it, it is then deemed to have been defaced,if the cheque is hand written then it's quite ok to put the number on the front.
I now have been told to wait until Friday and phone back to see what they have decided to do.
They weren't able to say when interest was going to start to be paid (the cheque was for quite a large sum).
Has anyone else had this problem? ???

Well I've posted them normal cheques in the past - They normally advise you to write your account number or customer number in the top right corner of the Cheque.
Silly really!0 -
Yes, I have aways put my number in the right hand corner no probs until now.
But why do I have to wait until Friday to find out if they will accept the cheque? Surely it's, in their opinion, defaced or accepted.0 -
If ING will not accept your amended cheque the the only way you can get such cheques into your ING account will be to first pay into your bank and then after the cheque is cleared do a money transfer using ING from your bank account into the ING account.
Not very convenient but perhaps more reliable than the post as cheques can go missing.Regards
