The registration fee for a Lasting Power of Attorney for Property & Affairs is only £150.
As Sloughflint mentioned, there's no point buying a 'kit', you can download the forms free from the Public Guardian website http://www.publicguardian.gov.uk/ and they come with copious notes.
It would certainly be invaluable if her GP were to confirm that she still had 'mental capacity', as this would help to prevent any challenges later on, as Localhero said.
But, it's important to get the forms signed as soon as possible if she may deteriorate; that costs nothing. If she does deteriorate, then registration will need to follow, but you must have the forms signed while she has mental capacity.0 -
Getting the registration and power from the court can take MONTHS.
LPA is totally unsuitable for emergency situations so everyone should go through the bureaucratic expensive procedure on their 18th birthday and certainly months before deciding to have a motor accident or a stroke?!
